C.D. Leganés failed to pick up any points on their visit to Las Palmas (2-0) in a match corresponding to Matchday 36 of LALIGA HYPERMOTION. Estanis, in the first half, and Manu Fuster, in the second, scored the goals for the yellow-and-blue side.
The Pepineros started strong, with three consecutive chances in the opening minutes. The first came from Álex Millán, who nearly connected with a fine cross from Juan Cruz on the left. Duk, just a minute in, had a shot blocked by the defense for a corner kick. And on that very corner, Millán once again had a chance to score with a header.
After a penalty not called on Duk, Las Palmas scored
Shortly after, the Blue-and-Whites claimed a penalty after the home goalkeeper fouled Duk, but the referee, after reviewing the play via VAR, ruled that no penalty had been committed.
Despite the efforts and chances created by Igor Oca’s side, it was the home team that eventually found the net. Following a play down the right flank, Marvin’s cross to the far post was finished by Estanis into the back of the net to open the scoring at the Estadio de Gran Canaria.
Leganés didn’t crumble after Luis García’s side scored and continued to make runs into the yellow team’s box, but none of them managed to seriously trouble the goalkeeper. For his part, Juan Soriano made a couple of key saves on the islanders’ attempts. Thus, with the home team holding a narrow lead, both sides headed into the locker rooms.
Manu Fuster sealed the deal in the second half
Leganés came out after the break eager to take control, seized possession, and managed to pin back Unión Deportiva Las Palmas, who defended in an organized manner without leaving any space for the Blue-and-Whites.
But it was the home side who struck again. In a fortuitous play, Ignasi Miquel was injured and had to leave the field. With the visitors momentarily down to ten men, Luis García’s men managed to capitalize on their numerical advantage, and Manu Fuster, with a shot from the edge of the box, scored the second goal.
The Blue-and-Whites were unable to turn the tide, and the two-goal lead held until the final whistle. The Pepineros will face Andorra at the Ontime Butarque Stadium next Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
