C.D. Leganés head coach Luis Carrión held a press conference following the match between the Pepineros and Albacete Balompié, part of Matchday 13 of LALIGA HYPERMOTION, which ended in a 1-3 loss.
The coach offered the following assessment of the ninety minutes:
Thoughts after the loss: “We didn’t start the match well. It was very even; we weren’t precise with the ball, and after a poor defensive pressure situation, we broke down in the middle and they scored very easily.
We weren’t sharp; we had a goal disallowed, then we hit a slump, and it became an uphill battle at 0-2. Early in the second half, we had chances to get back into the game, but the third goal made things difficult for us. It was all due to our own mistakes.”
Defensive weaknesses: “We need to improve our pressing in the middle, because they don’t get many chances but score very easily.
We’re playing with two forwards; the team can get stretched, though it shouldn’t.”
Refereeing: “A lot happened, but I don’t want to dwell too much on the calls—I’d rather focus on our mistakes.”
Overall impression: “If we keep conceding this many goals, we’re not going anywhere. We have to defend better as a unit. In Valladolid, they scored two goals off corner kicks, and today we defended them pretty well. But on the first goal, they got through on us way too easily, and we need to work on that, because it’s very hard to win that way. We create a lot of chances, but they get through on us too easily.”
Goals: “I don’t get the sense that the players aren’t going out there with a fighting spirit. We’ve been pretty successful in one-on-one duels, but it feels like their scoring opportunities come too easily. We’ll have to work hard on that because it can’t keep going this way. We have to improve, and I’m sure we will, because I don’t see any sign of apathy, not even at 0-3. They’re down mentally, but we’ll try to work as hard as we can and win in the Cup and then on Friday.”
Change in goal: “They press very high up the field; we created a lot of chances with Luca looking for Álvaro, and that’s what we were aiming for. I have two good goalies.”
