C.D. Leganés unveiled the commemorative jersey on Wednesday at Ontime Butarque Stadium, which the team will wear in its next two matches to mark the 400th anniversary of the City of Leganés, celebrated in 2026.
The jersey features the 400th-anniversary logo on the chest along with the slogan “Leganés, 400 Years of History,” and was unveiled by club president Eduardo Cosín at a joint event with the Leganés City Council, which was represented by Mayor Miguel Ángel Recuenco and Councilwoman for Sports Clara Polonio.
Eduardo Cosín: “It is a source of pride and a responsibility for the club to wear this logo on our jerseys”
Club president,Eduardo Cosín, opened the event with these words: “It is a source of pride for the club to celebrate the city’s 400th anniversary. We are grateful to be part of this milestone, and we wanted to make it our own in a way that is closest to what we represent every weekend—on the field. That’s why our captains are already wearing a special armband commemorating the coat of arms of the City of Leganés, and now we’re taking it a step further. On the chest of our jerseys for the next two matches, we’ll feature the logo created to commemorate the 400th anniversary.”
“This isn’t just another celebration—it’s something very important. We’re the city’s club, and we’ve been here for 98 years. By the time we turn 100, we’ll have been part of Leganés’ history for 25% of its existence. They’re two different stories, but they’ve gone hand in hand, progressing and sharing values. Wearing the logo on our chests is a source of pride and a responsibility. We hope it brings us luck and that we can turn things around at home with this tribute.”
“We wanted our fans to be able to take part in this celebration, and there will be 400 special jerseys for sale. We’re also paying tribute to the city’s other clubs that compete at the national level; we’ll be presenting them with a commemorative armband. This is a city with a rich history that we’re celebrating together today.”
“We have a responsibility to bring joy to the people of Leganés. We can only try to return their affection and ensure that people feel connected to what the team conveys on the field, so they leave feeling proud. We know who we represent and that playing for Leganés means having nearly 200,000 people behind us. We carry all of that with us and keep it very much in mind.”
Miguel Ángel Recuenco: “Thank you to the club and all the city’s sports organizations for carrying the Leganés crest throughout Spain”
Mayor Miguel Ángel Recuenco wanted to “thank the club for this step. When we launched this initiative, I reached out to the club, and we wanted to work hand in hand. Lega is part of 25% of our history as a city. Thank you to all the city’s sports organizations for carrying the Leganés crest throughout Spain. It highlights the work that all these organizations have been doing for years. More than 60,000 people play sports at our municipal facilities, and not many cities can say that.”
“It was clear to us that the clubs had to carry a symbol of this anniversary to highlight its significance and let residents know that we were celebrating 400 years. Effort, sacrifice, enthusiasm, and good vibes—that’s what we convey in Leganés.”
“We all feel very proud of the city where we live. But we needed to reach beyond those borders, and through these kinds of partnerships, we’re gaining recognition outside the city. And that’s thanks to the collaboration of all the organizations. This encourages us to continue establishing frameworks for collaboration. We’re putting Leganés on the map, and sports help with that.”
“Young people today are part of Lega—they carry it in their hearts—and that’s due to the team’s performance. We know that competing in the Second Division is very difficult, and enjoying professional soccer is essential. Lega is one of our ambassadors, and this is a partnership we must strengthen. We have to take great pride in our roots.”
